A few memories of our grandma by Emily & Ian

We both remember well our many outings with grandma, among which was the time that she got too close to a bus on the way to the metrodome scraping all the side of the car and telling us not to tell granddad.

Another secret from granddad was that grandma was a secret smoker. She would often sneak away for a cigarette although we think that maybe granddad just pretended not to know.

Then there were the holidays to Scotland with Auntie Linda whilst she was a rep. Grandma travelling up with Rupert the dog on her knee, and entertaining us with swimming and playing golf at the posh hotel golf courses whilst Auntie Linda was working.

Grandma and granddad were always our go to people during a crisis. There was the time that we crashed both cars while mum and dad were on holiday. Not wanting to spoil their holiday, we rang grandma and granddad to help us. Grandma upon seeing one of the bashed up cars in the driveway said I need a cigarette, get me an ashtray and lit up a cigarette in front of granddad! The sight of the car putting an end to her secret smoking!

Another memory is that grandma and granddad liked their holidays abroad with Auntie Glenys and Uncle Dewi. We remember waiting for them on numerous occasions at the airport security gates ready to run to them when the familiar faces rounded the corner. Taking us with them on one occasion on a holiday of a lifetime with the Jones family to Disneyland America. A holiday none of us will ever forget.

Then there were the many Sunday dinners with granddads gravy and grandmas apple pies, and of course a sherry or two, grandma’s favourite tipple. The tradition of having a sherry at a family dinner still lives on, so here’s to you grandma, cheers and thank you for being our grandma.
